Hi Neighbors, I have one bedroom in a 3-floor house for rent available around mid-Feb. The room is on the 3rd floor. It's only available to males. Location: Collins Ave and Jackson Street, Highland Park area, very quite and nice. You can take 71B to CMU or Pitt for only 20 minutes on ride. Rent:$225 / Month including water / hot water. You need to pay electricity (about $20 / person.month) and gas (about $20 / person.month except for winter -- in winter the gas would be up to $40/person.month; in summer it may low to $15). We have 15M Comcast Internet cable that would be shared by about $19 / person.month. You have full access to kitchen and bathroom. The room has a closet and a bathroom inside it. Laundry is available for free on basement, complimentary by landlord, who is a very nice Italian-American old couple and is living on the 1st floor of the house. The other tenants in the house are two very nice PhD students at Carnegie Mellon University, one will share the kitchen with you and the other is living at the 2nd floor who won't share anything with you. You can have a look at this room on any evening or weekend. No lease is required, but you should pay security deposit which is equal to monthly rent. Attached are a few photos of bedroom and kitchen. [Highland Park] Suspicious activity

Thought the neighborhood should know that there has been suspicious activity in the 6000 block of Jackson St at the corner of Heberton. We found wax packets (that someone told us probably contained drugs) outside our home. We've observed cars parked at odd times of the evening by the house. Today someone called me this afternoon to say that they saw 4 kids by the side of my house and thought it was suspicious. I told the four kids to leave our side door and two of them got aggressive. White girl with dark hair, two black guys and what seemed to be an older (maybe college-age) guy, who was the first to walk away. Because the girl was the most aggressive, I took her photo on my iPhone and called 911 while they were still there. One of the boys took a swipe at my iPhone. Cop said next time call and not confront.

[Highland Park] Stolen pink toddler bike

Hello, Today someone stole my 3 year old daughter's bright pink balance bike (no pedals) this afternoon out of the front yard at Heths and Wellesley. She had an emergency and we ran inside for 5 minutes while her young friend was still out with the bike and some older kids (we believe) took it off of the yard while we cleaned up inside. I hated to do it, because I am sure it is young kids who took it, but I did call the police (who have not yet called back to file the report). If you happen to be walking in the area and see a fairly uniquely colored pink tiny bike with no pedals, please give me a call. 412.606.9263. On the other hand, if you know who took it, we would be happy if it just appeared again on our porch at 1018 Heths Avenue, no questions asked. Peace, Heather

[Highland Park] lost dogs

Just saw three loose dogs run by in the alley behind my house on stanton near chislett. One brown pit mix (name tyson on collar), gray brindle pit mix with green (or blue) collar, and smaller gray dog. I tried to grab the brown one but he twisted out of his collar and ran...so I have it. They were headed toward negley, called the vet # on the collar to hopefully let the owners know. Choral Evensong is scheduled at 8 p.m. on the First Thursday of each month, October - May, at St. Andrew's Church, Highland Park. February 2 is a big day on the calendar! The 40th Day of Christmas, the Feast of the Purification of St. Mary the Virgin, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple, Candlemas--and, of course, Groundhog Day! The traditional service of Choral Evensong will be offered by the Parish Choir of St. Andrew's Church on Thursday evening, February 2, at 8 p.m. A recital follows the service. Piano for Four Hands.
