Neighbors, I wanted to take an opportunity to use the listserv for some shameless self-promotion. Two years ago I founded Patriot Fireworks LLC along with a friend of mine who had experience working in the fireworks industry. We saw how the big players in fireworks were increasing prices every year while also lowering the quality of their product. So we decided to see if we could do better and made a promise to ourselves that we would only sell quality fireworks and that we wouldn't "get greedy" like the big names have. We started out with 2 tents, one here in Pittsburgh and another in King of Prussia where my partner lives. Two years later we have expanded to 9 seasonal retail locations and also moved into wholesaling and guaranteed product services. Our tents are small and not as flashy as our competitors, but this allows us to keep our costs down. Despite the larger tents that the other guys use, we actually have a wider variety of products as well. The bigger companies have 1000 square foot tents and spread the same items around to different areas of the tent to make it look like they have a bigger variety. Don't be fooled. Most of our locations are in eastern PA, but we still have our original tent here in Pittsburgh at Puff Discount Tobacco in Plum Township. If anyone is interested in fireworks this summer, I would like to encourage you to give us a chance. We sell Shogun brand fireworks from China and have been very pleased with the quality and value of these items. While I prefer to support U.S. manufacturers whenever I can, I have to say that when it comes to fireworks, the Chinese still make them better than anyone and at a price that allows us to match or beat the prices of our competitors. Again, our tent location is at Puff Discount Tobacco in Plum at 7901 Saltsburg Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15239. It's a little out of the way for HP'ers, but its worth it. My husband and and I are very interested in a house that is for sale on Wellesley. Our concern is that in the past month there have been quite a few assaults and burglaries within a block of the home. Can any of you provide some advice on the general atmosphere of the street? Thanks! Jenn

[Highland Park] bookcases for sale

We've been cleaning house, and I have 3 bookcases for sale. Two white tall Billy bookcases from IKEA and one short all wood bookcase. I've attached a photo of each type. I think the other tall white bookcase has a small stain on the back (the part that would generally be covered by books). I'm not sure whether someone else could get this out or not. $25 takes the two white ones, $10 for the short one. Amy McCall .

On Sunday morning, I'm putting two crates made to move two flat screen TVs (42", 35") when we moved here last year. Free for the taking if you'd like to use them for a move, or just for the lumber. [Highland Park] Free Futon Frame

Hi! I just got a new bed to replace my old futon frame. It is in relatively good condition, disassembled, and sitting on my porch at 826 Mellon St. If anyone wants it, or knows someone who could use it (ie college in the fall) it is yours for the hauling away. Hardware is in a ziploc next to the pieces, although some hardware may need replacing. I plan to hang on to it for about a week before taking it over to Construction Junction or to the curb. Thanks! Dear Neighbors - It has been a while since writing in our newsletter, etc, to all of you, but I wish to pass on a couple of local businesses/services that we have been using, and that we shall continue to use: Advanced Pest Control - Pete: (412) 818-0421. We have used Advanced since the purchase of our house in 2002, and even with our weird schedule, Pete has always been in contact, and easy to work with. When we were working on our foundation area, they even made a special trip in to treat the totally exposed area. After two years, with more than a few no shows, we are working on catching up with our "curb appeal" and definitely recommend Josiah with work dealing with trees, the lawn, as well as creating the right look !!!
