I'm posting this for the good folks at Free Ride, the recycled bike cooperative. They are in need of kids bikes for their summer youth programs. ***** We are calling out for you to donate those bikes you have for youth that have been sitting in your yard for the past 2 years! We need to supply our youth Earn-A-Bike programs with bikes! What we need: bikes for ages 10-18 bikes with derailleurs bikes with mostly working parts mountain bikes, road bikes, cruisers, whatever you got! WHEN?: * NOW! Starting now through the end of May! What we DON’T need: * Single speed bikes * bikes that are extremely rusty or damaged THANKS FOR SUPPORTING PITTSBURGH’S YOUTH! To donate: If you want to see the shop in action or need a receipt for a tax deduction, come in during Free Ride’s open shop hours shown on their website. If you are not in need of a tax receipt you can bring the bicycles to Construction Junction during their open hours and leave them in the collection box. [Highland Park] FREE Intro to Gardening Class - Saturday

Hello all! Garfield Community Farm, started by a group of people from the Garfield / Highland Park / Friendship / East Liberty etc areas, is having an Intro to Gardening class at the Friendship Flower & Folk Festival this weekend. The event will be located at the Baum Grove in Friendship. This will be the second year we'll take part and it will be a great event. The festival is 11am - 4pm and includes food, music, flowers, and you'll be able to buy your veggie seedlings from GCF and other local growers for transplant into your own garden. If you come at 1pm we'll be providing a class on how to get started with basic gardening - probably with a focus on growing great tomato plants. Gardening teacher Carol Rand will teach the class. The class is free and will allow you to purchase some of the few heirloom tomato plants that we have for sale this year. Don't miss it! Date: This Saturday - 5/7/11 Time: Festival is 11 AM - 4 PM, Class begins at 1 PM. Hey yinz - We are trying out a new CSA this year after having been very happy with both Kretschmann's and Penn's Corner. It's a small farm about 50 miles away called Edible Earth Farm and they have a Highland Park/ Morningside dropoff.
