[Highland Park] HP rest. delayed again by ongoing sewer problems

I just wanted to share an article with the neighborhood in case anyone missed it. Another sampling of the City of Pittsburgh (through inaction) and the PWSA, as a partnership, standing in the way of the necessary development of our community. *Just a few reminders while you're reading:* We are District 7. Patrick Dowd is our District 7 Representative Patrick Dowd sits on the PWSA board. A local (and successful) business is practically falling at our feet to be a part of District 7. Surely, we can offer more than a basement filled with raw sewage as a welcoming mat. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10216/1077393-53.stm The PWSA and the City of Pittsburgh are well aware of the broken and antiquated sewer system in Highland Park (and the rest of the city) and claim to be a part of the solution. The HPCC, The Highland Park Community Development Corp, and the rest of this special community work so hard towards revitalization projects and improving the local amenities therein. To consider that we are at the mercy, ultimately, of such a powerfully stifling and slow corporate process is beyond frustrating. If our city of Pittsburgh tax dollars and monthly utility payments to PWSA (and their partners) aren't being spent on correcting our city's crippling infrastructure, especially where it's currently affecting local small business owners, then where is it going first? At the risk of sounding unsportsperson-like, I wonder if any of our new billion-dollar sports venues have sewer back-ups. What will Bryant Street will look like without Park Bruge? How will E2, the Bryant Street Market, Food Glorious Food, The Smiling Banana Leaf, local hair salons, tailors, etc. be affected by the patronage lost from not having another small business to join forces with? Although I firmly believe that the aforementioned businesses can stand on their own and be successful, the more that Bryant Street and Highland Park as a whole become a city destination for food and entertainment, the better. To the HPCC, The Highland Park Community Development Corp, and the Highland Park and surrounding community residents, thank you for your tireless pursuit of a perpetually better Highland Park. JJ

Neighbors, Come on out for a Walk in the Woods (the park) on Wednesday evening, August 11, 2010 at 6:30pm. We start at the fountain, walk in the woods as much as we can, and end back at the fountain about an hour later.
