Around 6 pm all power has been restored at Tazza D'Oro (for my peeps- there's a metaphor!) We will open at 7am sharp on Friday and coffee, espresso and French Presses will be flowing. [Highland Park] Ringo the Lost cat is going back to it's owners

Hello, My name is Paul and I want to express my feelings about Ringo and all of you that responded to my e-mail. I got a lot of responses from people who inquired about seeing different cats in our neighborhood but I had many responses from people who thought that it was nice thing that I had done. I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to do that. It made me feel humane and compassionate. I have three cats of my own and one of them in particular wold crush me if anything would happen to her. When I heard Ringo in distress I worried it was wild. Wild cats in our neighborhood have attacked mine. I have been seeing Ringo walking in front of my house for quite some time and I thought it was strange that he never bothered any of my cats but never thought anything of it. I just thought it was another cat like mine in our neighborhood. Honestly if no one claimed the cat I would have adopted it because he was so affectionate and nice. To all you cat lovers out there I guess we have some kind of bond. Thanks again, Paul

[Highland Park] East Liberty Farmers Market Update

Hello Highland Park Neighbors, I want to thank everyone that came out to the market last Sunday. We had a great turnout! Many people walked to the market. Fortunately, we were able to reenergize them with hot coffee and hot chocolate. Many people seemed to be suffering from a bad case of cabin fever, so it was great to get out and meet with neighbors. In that same spirit, the market will be open at our regular time this Saturday. All the farmers and vendors will be there with a great assortment of fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, cider, cheese, eggs and more. The Kew Park Coffee bar will have coffee, hot chocolate and three juices- orange, tangerine and grapefruit. David Lagnese The market is located at 344 North Sheridan Ave., adjacent to the Home Depot parking lot. The market is open from 5 AM until 12 Noon every Saturday of the year.

[Highland Park] Some helpful hints for dealing with the "winter car blues"

Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6 weeks Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity. Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing! Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel. The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber. Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers. De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved! (2 chefs in 1 house with a little too much extra down time this past week=some very delicious food to spare) If you personally know of someone in HP who is in need of a hot meal and can email me some contact info.
