*Thank you to the many neighbors who passed this link along to me. I thought it may be a good idea to share it with everyone. I recieved many many emails. Almost all of them agreed that the practice was rude and inconsiderate. Over the weekend it was averaging 6-12 times per day. I discovered from another neightbor that the families have been doing this for years to let their kids know that they were home. * *Good news...The honking has finally stopped. The last time was at 10:15 pm a few days ago. * *Section 1.* The Pittsburgh Code, Title Six, Conduct, Article I, Regulated Rights & Actions, Chapter 601,Public Order, Section 601.04 is hereby amended as follows: 601.04 UNNECESSARY NOISE AND SOUND AMPLIFYING DEVICES. *(a)* No person shall unnecessarily and repeatedly sound the horn of any vehicle or use any loud signaling device thereon except an emergency vehicle or a vehicle on emergency business. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_noise_ordinance_in_the_city_of_Pittsb…

[Highland Park] Free Twin Bed Frames

I was recently given two twin bed frames that I do not need. They look like cherry veneer, matching set, and are old/worn but in decent shape. One has wooden side rails, the other metal framing. No matresses. They are currently disassembled and I was able to fit both in my Honda Civic, so they're pretty portable. Email me for our address, preference given to someone who can pick up today. MY PEOPLE film series starts tonight at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater (on Penn Ave. in East Liberty)! A panel discussion will follow each film. MY PEOPLE: A Film Series in Color is a three-part film series highlighting the lives and experiences of queer people of color with award-winning films, expert hosts, and panel discussions. A diverse selection of people, presenters, and films will encourage dialogue around categories of human rights, trans identity, and family. While the films focus primarily on queer people of color, MY PEOPLE seeks to affirm underserved and underrepresented groups and help identify strong, active, and vibrant communities. Tuesday, November 2 | 7PM Activism & Human Rights: Then & Now Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin The life and work of civil rights organizer and right hand man of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Bayard Rustin, is explored in a multifaceted approach. Rustin, whose best known as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, was an openly gay black man fighting for the rights of all African Americans. Tuesday, November 9 | 7PM Transcending Gender Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen Often left out of the conversation, this film focuses on six black transmen sharing stories on love, family, passing, and sex. They are preachers, teachers, students, and activists with varied lives and experiences illuminated through candid conversations. Tuesday, November 23 | 7PM Choosing Family Changing House For 15 years, a communal living space in Brooklyn provided shelter for transgender women including Stonewall legend, Sylvia Rivera. As the home grew, its capacity was challenged and eventually “Ma” Sylvia passed. This documentary honors the loving family which grew from perseverance and the will to fight.

[Highland Park] Kentucky Avenue School Open House

Hi Neighbors, Kentucky Avenue School is hosting an Open House for prospective students this Saturday, November 6 from 11:00am - 2:00pm. KAS is a Kindergarten through eighth grade school in Shadyside, where higher-order thinking, hands-on learning, art, and differentiated instruction are at the center of what we do. I've been happily teaching there for five years, and both my children also attend. Please come and check out our wonderful school! The school is located in the Third Presbyterian Church at 5701 5th Avenue, Shadyside, though our entrance is on the Kentucky Avenue side of the building, so it is best to park there. [Highland Park] Dogs and Ticks

Neighbors: Our yellow lab has never had a tick before, including the two years we've lived on Heberton Street. This week we've pulled 4 ticks off of him. He hasn't been off-leash, just walking on the neighborhood sidewalks. We've started Frontline for him, but wanted to give a heads up to other dog owners to check their dogs for ticks. Dear Neighbors, We recently lost our beloved cat Johnny and plan on adopting a new kitten. We gave away our cat toys, bed, and climbing contraption because Johnny wouldn't use them. I am now seeking a cat bed and climbing contraption, scratch post, whatever you might have. This is in a desperate attempt at keeping our couch from looking like a porcupine.
