[Highland Park] recommendations for wall restoration post mantel & mirror removal

In anticipation of installing a new gas burning fireplace, I removed the existing mirror, mantel and tile. I now have a hole in my living room which I'd like to close/seal up and finish as just a wall. I'd appreciate recommendations for how to do this and contractors or trades people to do it. A few have suggested refinishing it with plaster, while others have suggested drywall. The existing original baseboards and missing hearth area might be complicating factors. I have original pine floors that have been refinished. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Thank you all for your input. The company mentioned the most often was the Garage Door Doctor. That being the case, I gave them a call. Wow! Two hours later the door has been repaired. Nothing like prompt service. Rich and Bonnee

Hello Neighbors, As Democratic Committee members we are disappointed with some of the election results. But we are certainly proud to be representing the District with the highest voter turnout percentage in the City of Pittsburgh: 64.33%. [Highland Park] posting for someone for this Aussie needing a home

Black Tri Australian Shepherd needs new home. He is located in Alaska, but the owner will help with shipping him to his new home. Kava is a neutered 2.5 year old black tri male Aussie. Knows basic commands very well (sit, down, wait, off, leave it, etc). We're willing to help with shipping costs. In addition to that, he weighs somewhere in the 60-65 pound range. He needs to lose maybe 3 or 4 pounds due to us not being able to run him as well as he needs and used to be. Other commands he knows, watch me, mine, touch, spin (kind of a modified tail chase), shake, speak, where's *insert name of person or toy*. He's an AMAZING retriever. Can play fetch for hours if you let him. He lovesloveslovesloves to swim and would do that for hours as well if he were allowed. He has dog and puppy aggression that needs to be addressed, and, for all of the effort I've put into it, I have two young children at home and life just isn't allowing me the time that he really NEEDS in order to address this issue. I will answer any questions anyone might have. I've been working with Kava, but he is not living a good life as he's not getting exercised away from my house anymore. He has been medically evaluated and nothing abnormal was found. I DO NOT THINK THIS DOG NEEDS TO BE PUT TO SLEEP, but I have NO other options. I've contacted in Alaska, the humane society, Aussie rescue, I've put the word out with several people in the breed and other people around town. I've had one inquiry that didn't pan out. I cannot keep him indefinitely. I do not want to make a blanket statement and say he's good with kids, but he IS good with MY young kids, and he's been good with any young children that have come to our house. Would you please consider this dog for your home if you can offer him consistent training to be able to socialize and be around other dogs? Contact: twirlandtweak(a)aol.com

Hi! We have a commercial vacuum cleaner that is just too large for what we need, but it works wonderful! It would be ideal for a large house or an office/working place. It was given to us as a well intentioned present, and we used it a couple of times before deciding that we would be better off with a small normal vacuum for our small apartment :) So now it's just occupying space. We would love to have it gone to someone that can and would use it! The brand is Sanitaire, 800 series and we are selling it for $150. Thanks a lot for reading! Coty and Greg.

I mistakenly picked up a package of 50 Memorex dvds at Target for $15. Holds 4.7GB and 120 minutes' worth of material. I no longer have the receipt so couldn't return them. There are 49 dvds as one was used in a failed attempt to burn a cd. We have no use for them and I'd hate to see them go to waste! Asking $10 or best offer.
