Hello, Hello, my name is Hannah Wigginton, and I am leaving the area for a while and am trying to find someone to take over my portion of the lease or sublet a room in my house from March until August, or as much of that time as possible. My roommates are all females in their early twenties and are all very clean and friendly. The house has plenty of space and doesn't feel to crowded. This would be a perfect situation for someone interested in communal living and cheap rent. [Highland Park] Looking for roommates in a great house in Morningside!

Posting this for a close friend who owns a house in Morningside... I own a House on Duffield St. I'm looking to rent out the rooms if you would be interested in a more communal living situation. I live there with my dog mogli who is a friendly beagle/lab mix. He's only about 45 lbs and pretty easy to manage. I'm looking for someone who could commit to a year lease but as long as you can do 6 months we can talk. I have a large room on the second floor that has a queen bed, a dresser, two smallish closets and a vanity that would be $500/mo. including utilities. There is only one bathroom. I have laundry machines in the basement and use of them would be an extra $25 a month on rent. I also have a third floor finished attic space. It has a low slanted cieling but is a comfortably furnished and bright room. It also has a queen sized futon couch, a twin bed, and a dresser but no closet space. It is $400/mo. [Highland Park] cat looking for a home

Hello, I'm fostering a gorgeous, sweet boy cat. He was dumped near my aunt's property in the Laurel Mountains. She had him neutered and tested (neg for FIV and FeLV), and he is up to date on his shots. She named him Jasper, and he recognizes the name, but could probably get used to a new one as well. Jasper is probably a few years old, and has excellent litterbox skills. He is a brown tabby with unusual spiral markings on the sides of his body. He is extremely friendly with people. While he doesn't like to be held, he will come sit next to you and cuddle and be petted endlessly. He also seems to stay off most of the furniture. Jasper would probably do best in a home with no other cats, or just one other very friendly cat. He does ok with a couple of my friendlier cats, but seems intimidated by most of them. If (heaven forbid) your heater conks out this winter, I highly recommend Sullivan Super Service. When it was clear that we needed to replace ours, a salesman came to our chilly old house ASAP--even though it was late on a Saturday night. He also loaned us some space heaters to tide us over until the installation. Friendly, efficient staff--very tidy and thorough (they're an old, locally based company). Hello, Our 5 month old puppy will soon have outgrown her training crate, and we are looking for a larger one to replace it. Her current crate is the coated black metal kind with removable plastic tray, and it is 36 x 23 x 25. [Highland Park] Weatherproofing follow-up

Thanks to everyone who sent in suggestions and referrals for my question about weatherproofing. There are quite a few good suggestions. I received several requests to post all the recommendations back to the list. Happy New Year. Max Junker -We used cotton batting insulation from Artemis on Butler St. in Lawrenceville. Something I have heard many people say is worthwhile is having an energy audit done by a qualified firm. I only know of Conservation Consultants Inc. on the S. Side, but I'm sure there are others. Green Building Alliance might have a couple recommendations and might also have something to say on the best insulation, etc. On second thought, I do remember a firm that specialized in insulation and weather-sealing. InsulRight or InsulLight or something like that. -Last year I had a home energy audit done. See more here: http://www.pahomeenergy.com/resources.html. That's a state agency and they were very helpful to me. They also have a list of approved auditors. I ended up using West Penn Energy Solutions: http://www.westpennenergysolutions.com/ I liked the guy (Michael) a lot and he did a good job. But it is true that he focused on the areas that he works in, namely, insulation. I did get insulation done in the basement and attic (since I have brick walls and there's not much they can do with that). It was expensive, but it has made a tremendous difference both to my heating bill as well as to my comfort level in the house. But I think, regardless of what some people say, that it's important also to replace some windows and doors. I would recommend the home energy audit. Many people suggested that I use the local non-profit, the name of which I can't remember. I did use them at first but I did not have a good experience with them. Luckily, the state agency helped me with that. It's all a very long story that I'd be happy to tell you about on the phone if you're interested. Just give me a call. -You might want to call Conservation Consultants on the South Side. If you aren't familiar with them, they are a wonderful organization. http://www.ccicenter.org/ They do energy audits and even if you don't wish to have that done, they could probably provide a recommendation for a contractor. Kevin said he knows of a couple of people (including one on Greystone) that have used USA Insulation and they were very happy. They blow foam insulation into the walls but Kevin said he thinks it is pretty permanent and maybe not the best solution if, for instance, you want to update your electrical sometime in the future. I would really try to give CCI a call.
