At St. Andrew's, Highland Park: The February "First Thursday of the Month" service of Choral Evensong will observe the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple, or the Purification of St. Mary the Virgin, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 5th. The Choir will sing Responses by William Smith of Durham (1603-1645) and the Service in A Major by C.V. Stanford (1852-1924). The Anthem will be, "When to the Temple Mary went," by Johannes Eccard (1553-1611) The service is followed by a recital: Bryan Adkins, Horn, and Corinne Fink-Adkins, Piano, playing the Sonata for Horn in E flat and Piano, Op. 28, by Franz Danzi (1763-1826). And all are invited to a festive reception, in the Parish Hall. The Asian vegetarian class is a two week session on 2/19 & 2/26th from 6:30-9:30 PM on Thursday evenings. ³Making Whiteness Visible², the implications of Racism and White Privilege at East Liberty Lutheran Church, 5707 Penn Avenue Friday, February 6, 7-9pm, film and discussion Saturday, February 7, 9 a.m. 4 p.m. workshop, including screening of the movie, a heart-to-heart conversation to make connections and build awareness, a game to analyze power dynamics, and development of a work plan that includes connecting and integrating racial justice. The goals are to demonstrate leadership and community building, to develop a work plan, to integrate racial justice into our advocacy, and to enhance our commitment to racial justice on a personal, organizational, and community level. Events are sponsored by the Women¹s International League for Peace and Freedom and the East Liberty Lutheran Church. They are open to the public. Suggested donations for Friday $5, for Saturday movie and workshop $15, includes a light lunch. Registration for this workshop is requested (plan for lunch and material, limited space). Check out the Pittsburgh Putt Putt video on youtube. It is coming soon to St. Raphael School Feb. 7th and 8th from noon to 4pm. the cost is $5/adult and $3/kid. The money raised will benefit the Cub Scouts Pack 343. The Pittsburgh Putt Putt was built by some parents and the Cub scouts from pack 343. The Putt Putt is an indoor mini golf course. Each hole represents a landmark here in Pittsburgh PA. you can hit the ball down the incline at Duquesne Incline, or up the Thunderbolt at kennywood, or Down the streets of downtown Pittsburgh, etc. What a better time of year to find something fun to do indoors.
