To participate in this terrific donation matching event, go to the web site <www.PittsburghGives.org> today and create a Log In account. Then, Log In tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at <www.PittsburghGives.org> from anywhere or join us in the PPG Wintergarden, Downtown Pittsburgh for a live public event. Type in the name of a non-profit such as Homeless Children's Education Fund or HCEF <www.homelessfund.org> in the box marked "Organization Name" and follow the prompts to make your contribution. Euclid Ave PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AS THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS APPLY FOR MATCH DAY 2009: The challenge match will be in effect beginning at 10:00 a.m. on October 28, 2009 for public users until matching funds ($300,000) are exhausted or 12:00 p.m. on October 29, 2009. Donations through the PittsburghGives site to eligible charities are tax deductible and irrevocable (donations will not be refunded.) Making a donation during the Match Day period does not guarantee matching funds. Donations will be matched until the match pool of dollars is depleted. Public user contributions or Pittsburgh Foundation Donor contributions are eligible to be matched .50 cents to the $1.00 up to a maximum of $2,500 per individual or company. For example, if Jane Doe gives an organization a $2,500 grant, the org. receives $1,250 in match money for Jane's gift. If she raises her gift to $10,000, the organization's total in match money from Jane's gift is still only $1,250. Public users are individuals or companies. Non-profit organizations may not donate to themselves. PF Donors are individuals who have established an endowment fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation. The minimum credit card contribution is $50. The maximum credit card contribution is $10,000. The minimum grant recommendation is $200.

Reminder: This coming Sunday November 1, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, the East End/East Liberty Historical Society will offer a special event in the vacant store at the rear of the Trader Joe's building on Penn Ave in the Village of East Side Shopping Center. Lots of free parking. There will be refreshments and live musical entertainment. This event will feature displays of unique old-time photos and artifacts presented by several area residents including George Clark, Peggy Spangler, Ray Schinhofen, Carl Vitti, Pete Bolanis, and others. If you have items to share, please feel free to bring them for display. At this event, we will also ask attendees to sign up to help organize a major East Liberty Festival being planned for 2010. Friends, neighbors, hoopers, and soon-to-be-hoopers, Here it is Tuesday again. And Tuesday is Hoop Day at the Union Project. Here's the skinny: Hoop Union Tuesday HULA HOOP JAM Tuesday, October 27 6:30 to 7:30 pm Union Project corner of Stanton and Negley Everybody is invited -- all ages and sizes We've got hoops to share, or you can bring your own. Please bring $2 to help us pay for the space This one is extra special -- partly because it's the last hoop jam in our first series, and partly because there may be a reporter and a camera there from WQED's OnQ news magazine. We just thought you should know. Please come if you want to be on TV or if you don't. Starting next week, we're going to offer a slightly different format -- a bit more like a class, with a new skill taught each week -- and we'll ask for a bit more money, $5 per class. It will still be a drop-in class -- no need to register and it's ok if you don't make it every week. We will also be scheduling a monthly open hoop jam on a different day of the week, so we'll be asking what days and times work best. Several people who want to hoop can't make it on Tuesdays. Please watch your email for a little survey to help us find the best times. This has been SO MUCH FUN. Thank you, everyone who has been coming to hoop with us. Stef and I have loved meeting all of you, and we are excited to continue to help build a hooping community in Pittsburgh. [Highland Park] Cat Found (10/26/09)

Neighbors, While out running on Highland Avenue tonight, my boyfriend found a cat who had been hit by a car (at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Callowhill Street). The cat was already dead when he found him; we're hoping that he died on impact and did not suffer. He is dark grey with a grey nose; he looks to be a younger cat with well groomed fur, about 8 lbs. (I am not sure about gender... I am just guessing). We didn't want to leave him in the road, so have wrapped him in a blanket and brought him home in a box. We are planning on taking him to Greater Pittsburgh Animal Rescue for cremation in the morning. If he is your cat, or if you know someone who is missing their cat, please email me as soon as possible. Given his healthy appearance, I am assuming that he is someone's pet.
