MARK YOUR CALENDARS – UNWRAPPED HOLIDAY SEASON The Union Project’s UnWrapped 2006 Holiday Season, “A celebration of art, sound and community begins on December 2nd at 7pm with a kick-off event featuring the Centro Flamenco de Pittsburgh, the Pentecostal Temple Mass Choir, the Oriental Star Dancers, El Coro Latino Americano and the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh Bell Choir and a live auction. Thanks to everyone who responded for my request for an insulation contractor. As home repairs go, one thing leads to another, thus I have another question, can anyone recommend a good roofer and a general contractor (reliable, cost conscious, and familiar with our old homes would be a plus! ). A neighbour had passed along Josewitz roofing, has anyone had experience with them? Greetings all, I just wanted to let you all know that AVG 7.1 Anti-Virus (free version) will no longer be supported after January 1, 2007. However the new replacement version AVG 7.5 is already available and is also free, and you can download it here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free ( Go 1/2 way down the page and look for the .exe ) I've been running it for 4 days and it's great. AVG is the best, imho, and I've been using it for a few yrs. * Installation notes and other personal opinions below. ------------------------ My services are anything related to computing PC ( macs only in an emergency ... or possibly I can refer you ) and also helping with choices for a new purchase. Do an update and a second to make sure, ( choose internet as the source and check the box that says don't ask again ) until you are told there are no more updates. ------------------------ My experience with AVG has been that is very light weight and transparent, putting much less stress on your PCs resources, ( ram usage and processing power ) compared to the 2 "big sellers" which are very hard on a PC and have little concern for being efficient in usage of your horse power. I've also seen AVG find things that the "big 2" missed. It runs quietly in the background, watches all activity on your machine and needs practically no attention.

[Highland Park] Harvest Party Update

Hello neighbors! A great time was had by all at the Annual Highland Park Harvest Party on November 4th! We were blessed to have such a beautiful day for our get together -- even the temperature was just right for warm cider and cookies! It was great to catch up with many of you and meet new neighbors as well. But, perhaps, the best part was watching the kids have fun playing games, making their fall creations, and jumping in the hay pile! A great big thank you to all of the individuals who gave their time and energy to make a day like this possible and to the folks at The Union Project who helped us out by lending us the equipment we needed for the party. If you missed the Party this year, be sure to watch for it next November!

[Highland Park] Final Reminder: This Weekend at the Festival

Saturday evening, November 4, 8 p.m., former St. Andrean Mezzo Soprano Elizabeth Robideau will be in recital with John Moyer, piano, and Yuliya Zhukova, cello, presenting songs and arias by Britten, Handel, Berlioz, Brahms, and Rossini. Sunday morning, November 5, at the 11 a.m. All Saints Sunday service of the Holy Eucharist, the Choir of St. Andrew's Church and the strings of the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra will present the Mozart Missa Brevis in G Major. And, as the Festival reaches its crecendo and conclusion, on Monday evening, November 6, at 8 p.m., the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra, with the Festival Chorus, and joined by the Slippery Rock Trio, will present works by Handel, Stravinsky, Vaughan Williams, and Beethoven. St. Andrew's is located at 5801 Hampton Street, between North Highland and North Negley Avenues, one block south of Bryant Street and four blocks south of the park, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park.
