Last night someone walked up our driveway on N. Highland near the park and went thru the glove compartment of our SUV. We found the door open and papers strewn inside the SUV. The only thing that was taken was an eyeglass holder full of change for tolls and parking meters. Silly us, we never locked the SUV which has a security system as we thought this could never happen in our neighborhood. If you all know the homes in our area, you would realize that the person would have to walk quite a ways to get up our driveway and for sure must have triggered the motion detecter spotlights in our driveway during the escapade. [Highland Park] Meeting to explore city-county merger

A panel of politicians, corporate and nonprofit leaders and an academic expert will tackle the topics of a possible city-county government merger and regionalism at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's next town meeting Wednesday. The meeting, "Our Region, Our Future," will be held in the Hicks Chapel auditorium of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary on Highland Avenue from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. [Highland Park] Help requested on Mellon St

Dear Highland Park Neighbors: I am writing to request your assistance. My husband, Brett, and I have lived at 922 Mellon Street for over 5 years now, and we have stood our ground to the drug dealers and thugs, pretty much by ourselves. Other neighbors that live directly in this area have been intimidated and overwhelmed, and have subsequently given up. We can't do it alone any more. It's been proven that the more people around to disrupt their business, the less business they do, and less they want to do in the future. So, to that end, we would like to invite you to come hang out on our front porch with us this summer! When you're walking your dog, stop by! When you're riding your bike, ride down Mellon Street! Or just come over and check out all the flowers in our garden! The HPCDC is working on renovating parts of Mellon Street, and we will soon (by fall?) have single families in some of the currently abandoned properties, but we need to show them that we are united and make it a welcoming place for those new families. Does anyone know any tenors? My Volunteer Singing group just lost our tenor. We are a friendship-based social group who rehearses and performs for the teamwork, camaraderie and joy of music, not for money. [Highland Park] Highland Park Bridge garden planting

Last Saturday there was supposed to be a garden planting day at the Highland Park bridge, and this was mentioned in my weekly mailing and on the Community Calendar, but as "TBA". That's because the person I had exchanged email about that event with earlier in the year never returned my recent requests for confimation. Anyway, I have not been by the bridge area since before Saturday, so I have not see what was done...
