Heth's Run Bridge

I wrote almost two weeks ago about the upcoming replacement of Heth's Run bridge by PennDOT. The Highland Park Community Club voted at its January meeting to authorize David Hance and Lisa Williams, presidents of the Community Club and the Highland Park CDC, respectively, to write a letter supporting the CDC's efforts to make sure the replacement is historically and architecturally appropriate. As of this week, the "Bridges & Tunnels of Allegheny County" web site at <http://pghbridges.com/> has added an entry for the ailing bridge. It includes a picture of the bridge from 1915, when the bridge was just a year old. The Highland Park Community Club and the East End Neighborhood Forum will sponsor a candidates' forum at St. Andrew's on February 18 at 7:30 pm. Community Club meeting tomorrow, January 16, 2003

Highland Park Community Club monthly meeting - Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 7:30 pm. Lisa Williams is the new president of the community club. At the meeting tomorrow evening, the Club will hold a special election for the Executive Vice President. Bob Staresinic has been nominated. All Club members are eligible to vote. Board members will vote on the proposed Club budget for 2003. The vote was tabled in November due to lack of quorum. The program committee has invited Mary Beth Steisslinger to talk about improvements to the park including the restoration of the entrance at North Highland Avenue. You don't have to be a member of the Community Club to attend the meeting! Just come to St. Andrew's Church at 5801 Hampton Street at 7:30 pm. And don't forget about the Pittsburgh City Council District 7 Special Election on February 25, 2003, and the Candidates' Forum *tonight* at 7:00 pm at the Teamster Temple at 4701 Butler Street, sponsored by Lawrenceville Votes.
