[Highland Park] Billboard Industry Moves to Build 20 Electronic Billboards in City
Dear Friends and Supporters of Scenic Pittsburgh, The largest billboard corporation in the city has filed applications for 20 permits to build new electronic billboards throughout Pittsburgh. The applications came in the wake of revelations that the Mayor's office improperly modified the proposed billboard legislation before the bill was returned to City Council from the Planning Commission. Because the legality and defensibility of the billboard legislation is now in question, lawyers for the billboard industry are arguing the electronic billboard moratorium is unenforceable and have threatened the City with legal action if the 20 permits are not approved. City Council will meet at 1:30 today to question the City Solicitor and members for the Planning Commission as to how and why the democratic process was again subverted to accommodate the demands of the billboard industry. Below is a list of the electronic billboard locations listed on the permit applications. The shear size, number, and locations reveal the level of respect the billboard industry has for our beautiful city. Call or email Mayor Ravenstahl at 412-255-2626 or askpgh@city.pittsburgh.pa.us and tell him to sign the bill to ban electronic billboards.
