A friend who lives in Highland Park on the west side of Negley shared this we me. It resembles an incident on my street -- Jackson (near the park) -- that took place late last summer. Paola Scommegna 6311 Jackson St. "...Sometime between 12 and 12:30pm (Saturday, November 12th) I decided to walk home from a party (from near tthe corner of Beatty and Stanton to west side of Negley) with G. and M. . As we walked down Stanton a group of about 20 teenagers in hoodies turned the corner and walked toward us. They passed us without any trouble, but once they got about a block past us they turned, spread out to both sides of the street and came back at us. They attacked us from behind--pushing and punching M.. As I grabbed to get my cell phone out of my bag I was shoved, falling into a near-by car and my purse and everything in it flying all over the street and sidewalk. I made a grab for my phone and ran to call 911. Meanwhile M. had been chased across the street, was knocked down and was being punched, hit with bottles and kicked on the a lawn (Stanton a few houses from Negley, north side of street). G. ran and wasn't chased. She was on the corner also calling 911 and watching the whole thing happen. Once they got our bags, they ran. M. was wearing a backpck, so they had to do a lot more damage to him to get the bag. Basically, we're all physically alright. M. was checked out by a paramedic. Aside from welts on the back of his head and a sprained ankle, he's alright. But I'm pretty angry and trying to get over my fear . The cops responded and took us around to id all of the teens they'd rounded up in the neighborhood, but since they attacked from behind, we never saw who particularly were the ones doing the attacking. We were able to point out some who'd been in the group, but that was it. So they all got away with it. We found our bags the next morning with everything there but a few strange things-- a journal and graph paper and a set of keys. ...."
