[Highland Park] Main sewer line cleaning and repair recommendations - RESPONSES from HP List members
Hello Highland Park neighbors, I received more than a dozen responses to my inquiry for main line sewer cleaner recommendation. Everyone who responded was VERY clear about bad experiences with "$99 Guaranteed Drain Cleaning" services: STAY AWAY!!! One resident booted the "$99 plumber" from his property after a very expensive diagnosis and offer of insurance and service calls, rented a drain snake from Home Depot, and cleared the drain himself after filing with the BBB and getting a "$99" refund. They were also very clear about companies that do quality work for a fair price, with no surprises. Top on the list was "A1 Sewer Cleaning Specialists", who only does sewer problem diagnosis cleaning, and does not do plumbing. Two Realtors responded with glowing recommendations regarding A1 for clearing and inspecting sewer lines. One resident used A1 twice, with great results both times. Here's the tally: . A1 Sewer Cleaning Specialists 412-664-4212: 6 recommendations: Sewer cleaning and diagnosis only . Stahl Plumbing: 412-273-1000: 4 recommendations: full service drain cleaning and diagnosis plus plumbing services . Benjamin Franklin 412-695-3196: 3 recommendations: full service drain cleaning and diagnosis plus plumbing services One respondent suggested that I check my homeowner's insurance to see if any part of clearing/repairing the sewer line is covered. Unfortunately for me the sewer line is not covered by my insurance, but I thought it was an excellent suggestion, and one I had not considered. Thanks to all who responded with comments, suggestions, and recommendations. I am much better prepared now to have my drain problem resolved by a reputable company. --Joel From: global593 [mailto:global593@earthlink.net] Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2013 4:14 PM To: neighborhood@highlandparkpa.com Subject: Main sewer line cleaning and repair recommendations Hello Highland Park neighbors, I have what appears to be a clogged main sewer line on an older (60+ years) property. There is a TV ad that runs pretty often for a big local plumbing company that offers a "$99 Drain/Sewer Cleaning Service". Does anyone have any experience with this cheap/flat rate service offering good or bad? Better yet, does anyone have a GOOD experience with a local plumbing company who shows up on time, with the right people and (modern) equipment to diagnose and quickly unclog/fix a pesky main sewer line, and charges an honest price for services rendered? Thanks, Joel
