The Ben Franklin Plumber Joe Lesko, did some work recently at my house and we talked about tankless water heaters. About two years ago I needed to have a new water heater installed. I wanted to get a "green" one but the plumbers I spoke to at the time did not advise it. Things have changed, more options are available and there is a big tax rebate on them, plus a special PA rebate this coming March. I won't change mine now, since it's too new, but if you're in the market for one, Joe is very capable and can advise you on the cost and installation.
