[Highland Park] Similar Robbery in September
I just read Bruce Robinson's email and noticed some similarities (and differences) to my own robbery in the very beginning of September. The location caught my attention. I was robbed on Highland Ave by Wellesley. The robbers, two 16-18 year old African American males ran at me from behind. I don't know if they came out of the bushes or where, but I had just walked by wherever they came from and did not see them. I don't know if they tackled me or I went down on my own. It had just gotten dark about 15 minutes earlier. I screamed my head off and one put his hand over my mouth. When I calmed down they asked for me money. I stalled them a little taking forever to find my wallet and just gave them the cash out of it. They asked if I had any credit cards and I told them no (even though I did). They were in a hurry so I did not think they would check. Then they ran back to where they came from. They both had bandanas over their mouths. One had a yellow hooded sweatshirt on. There was no threat of a weapon and no physical assault, but I also did not resist and am a 24 year-old female, so they probably did not feel very threatened by me. I gave a police report and looked at some photographs. They thought it might be a 16-18-year-old African American male that was picked up for many neighborhood robberies and had a yellow sweatshirt on in one of the photos, but I was so scared I did not really look at them, so could not identify anyone. Now I just try not to carry much cash on me. If I go to the Walnut Market, I only take the money I need in my pocket, instead of a purse. Also, I still would not fight back.I have thought about pepper spray, but am scared I would be physically assaulted if I used it and did not get them perfectly in the eyes. Also, you would have to have it out in your hands at all times, ready to spray. Maybe just having pepper spray visible might deter someone from trying to rob you. Stay safe, Holly Irvine
