Good evening neighbors, A couple weeks ago I requested feedback on who could replace/repair deteriorating porch columns. There were many helpful responses and several people emailed requesting I share the information. Below is a summary of the recommendations. Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge! You may wish to try Ken Hall of Hallcraft (412-621-7605) on Gross Street in Bloomfield (below West Penn Hospital). He is superb. Please tell Ken that Dr. Vagley recommended him to your neighbor. Somerset Columns:http://www.doorandcolumn.com/custom-columns.html I got two Scamozzi caps from them maybe 20 years ago for our house. Full line of columns, caps, bases, wood and otherwise. By the way, carpenter ants mean wet wood so your neighbor should fix the underlying problem before installing new material. One suggestion would be Allied Millwork of Pittsburgh -- on Penn Ave in the strip around Lawrenceville. They do custom made fine wood windows & doors -- but they may be able to lead you in the right direction. Chuck is the guy you'll speak with. They made a magnificent front door for me which I could not be happier with. You may want to contact Dan Hinchman. He does some millwork himself and also has great resources for others who might do more complex jobs. I recomend Paul Voelker contracting. It is an almost perfect match only the capital is slightly different and they have a huge variety. Cheri. I would check with Jim Ladner; even if he doesn't do it he might know someone that does.
