Birch finish (I think). Doesn't really come apart -- all but one shelf come out, and the back panel is nailed on. Transportation could be a bit painful since it is about 7 feet tall, but it is pretty easy to carry. Let me know if you are interested and able to pick it up. Thanks, Haakan
