Houseplants! with the Highland Park Garden Club
Hello, everyone! This month, the Highland Park Garden Club is meeting one week later than usual, but we've got a program that makes it worth the wait! We will have a show-and-tell on our houseplants! We'll include the familiar and the unusual, the ones that we love and the ones that we just can't figure out. Non-members are welcome to attend and participate. Please see the end of the email for specifics. The program will be in two parts: (1) BYOHP! (Houseplant Show-and-Tell Bring the plant you brag about, or the misfit that you just can't bring yourself to get rid of. Bring one you want to offer cuttings of, or the one you guard with your life. Bring that very special one that has really unusual coloration, growth habit, leaves or flowers. [cid:9ec13319-70ea-44b2-aeae-f3c6d2b50359] [cid:60e43b64-4c9f-4349-987e-93b5bb7765cf] [cid:4dd9707f-69d5-47b5-93a2-25445d71711b] Bring all of your knowledge or aggravation with you! We want you to briefly discuss why you like or dislike this particular houseplant. Give us all sorts of tidbits about it. Tell us how it grows, what it likes, where it comes from (and where WE can get one!!!) Tell us what you've struggled with, if it just never looks as good as you hoped it would, drops its leaves, or is too temperamental. Obviously, the number of folks who bring their plants might exceed the amount of time we have, but we'll do our best! If you have any pictures of your houseplant(s), send them to Rachel, rkudrick@live.com<mailto:rkudrick@live.com> NO LATER THAN NOON ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 27TH. The picture will be projected up onto the screen for folks to see a little better, even as the plant is passed around. Be sure to include a pic of what makes the plant unique. If it's not displaying that right now (maybe a flower), try to find a pic on the internet. (Pics from above usually work really well.). If you know it, include the name of the plant. This will also be very helpful if you're not able to bring the plant with you for some reason. (2) Houseplant Care: Q&A If there is time, we may also be ab;le to handle a few more specific questions. If you have any questions about general care, or about a specific variety of plant, please e-mail the questions (AND PICTURES!) to Rachel at rkudrick@live.com<mailto:rkudrick@live.com> no later than noon on Friday, January 27th. While she cannot guarantee to find all the answers, she'll certainly try. (NOTE: This is NOT a presentation on houseplant care, health, etc. We will just try to answer what we are able during or after the Show and Tell.) The Highland Park Garden Club will meet on Saturday, January 28th at 10:00 am. If you are interested in attending, please email for location. Thanks so much, neighbors! We look forward to seeing you (and your green friends!)
