FOCUS Pittsburgh Food, Hygene & supplies Drive
This email is going out as a cry for help for an organization in need. FOCUS Pittsburgh, located in the Hill District, is part of a national movement through the Orthodox Church, that helps to fight poverty in communities across America. One of their areas in need is keeping their food pantry stocked with food and supplies. Currently, their shelves are empty and they need help. The above attachment highlights what they need. It could change on a monthly basis, at which point that need will be communicated. Our local residents, Mike and Brigette Nadler, have offered to be the Highland Park pick up people. If you are inclined to help, leave the supplies on your front porch and they will pick up and get your donations to FOCUS. Just email them your address at: mike@divehards.com, to let them know what to expect to pick up (as well as what not to take). MAKE SURE that there is a Phone Number so that they can reach you during collection times. This month, they will pick up on Thursday, Feb. 22nd between the hours of 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM FOCUS Pittsburgh has been in the Hill since 2011. Each week, hundreds of backpacks are distributed to children in the Hill and Southside Public Schools. They offer an 8-week professional development class that teaches non-technical job skills to promote employment and success in the workplace. Bag lunches are distributed every Saturday through the Churches….140 lunches to be exact. In 2014, they opened a free medical and behavioral health clinic for people who are uninsured or who don't qualify for medical assistance. Most recently, they have purchased an RV, trained dozen of volunteers, and have formed a trauma response team -- responding to homicides in Allegheny County by providing on-site psychological and mental health care to residents affected by violence. In advance, thank you for your consideration. Neighbors, This is a great organization doing amazing work. I’ve had a chance to volunteer with Focus, the company I work for helps support their efforts and your donations will go directly to those in need. If you able please consider a donation, it’s a great cause. Kevin Sent from my iPad

<FOCUS Pittsburgh Accepted Donations.docx>
Hi there Neighbors - This is a reminder that again this Thursday, 22 FEB 18, we are planning on driving around the neighborhood to pick up the much needed supplies for FOCUS, which we posted about in the below e-mail. We have gotten numerous responses, and are appreciative. The attachment is also there, but some people's e-mail service seems to be blocking it. We can send separately if requested. First of all, some people have contacted us saying that they are donating, but excluded their address from which to pick these items up, and secondly it would be helpful to understand what not to take off some people's porches !!! If you could let us know what you might be donating, where you live, and if you could provide us a phone number to be used that morning just in case of some confusion on the day of pick up. We are planning on starting at 9:00 AM, to get the supplies directly to FOCUS following our pick up, but before they close at noon, thus the reason for this change. Please call with any questions. Hi there Neighbors - Brigette and I made our way around the neighborhood picking up the items that were generously donated, and the first FOCUS run was a success! 3 SUV's -- 2 from the North and ours from Highland Park -- loaded to the max arrived at 10:30 a.m.! I think we overwhelmed them! We filled the place with clothes, home stuff and food. We left it as is for now, until they sort through a system of how we can help unpack in the future. They can't handle anymore shelves either, but that was yesterday, and most of that is potentially already passed out to those in need. Our next run is currently planned for Thursday, March 29th, again at 9:00 AM, and we will send out an e-mail confirming this. Keep collecting food and clothing for sure. We will send out a reminder as update as to how things are moving. If anything changes -- in terms of needs -- I will send out another email. Go through your closets/basements if nothing else, and we shall do this again next month. Kindly respect the process, as with one home we were never able to get hold of after they said to stop by, but never provided us with a physical address, while another had the date wrong, and a third dropped off supplies here at our home. We do not have a place to store these, and are making people aware that we will be showing up to haul away only. Also, someone asked about furniture. As long as people can carry the furniture home, then we can take it. They have no room at FOCUS to store furniture. They can take end tables/coffee tables, but I doubt anything bigger. And CAN OPENERS! Those are in need. Take care all! As Father Paul said yesterday: keep in mind the number of people who will receive help from this effort. Children, men and women who will have food and clothes. He was glad it was cold and raining outside so more people will be walking in today at FOCUS and can have food & clothing to take home with them. Whatever religion we chose to follow: We are to feed the people who are in need. So thankful for all of your help!
