[Highland Park] Weekly Walks in the Woods
On Wednesday I plan to participate in the free "Weekly Walk in the Woods" sponsored by Venture Outdoors (formerly Western Pennsylvania Field Institute) and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. In the past, the walk has lasted about 1 and 1/2 hours and has included activities such as identifying plants and park features and discussing park history. This time I'll bring a list of flowers to be planted around the reconstructed fountain and drawings showing what the final result will look like. I hope to see you there! Every third Wednesday during the summer the walk starts in Highland Park at the North Highland Avenue entrance at 6:30 pm. The walk is free, worthwhile, and not too difficult--there are some steep steps and some mud, but most of it is pretty easy. There are walks in the other City parks as well--one each week. In months which have 5 weeks, a walk is scheduled at Washington's Landing on that last Wednesday of the month. See the Venture Outdoors web site for the schedule: <http://www.ventureoutdoors.org/> There are other events planned for Highland Park in August (but these are not free). I will make sure to add them to the Highland Park Community Calendar: <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/calendar/> -Rudy PS: the start time for the walk in the woods is 6:30 pm as I have written above, not 6:00 pm as I wrote in the weekly "This Week in Highland Park" mailing...
