I just wanted to take a minute and thank all of my great neighbors for your humorous and knowledgeable emails helping me identify my family's newest friend. The winner by a large margin is stag beetle and despite their size and ferocious look it turns out they are basically harmless pushovers and not much to be concerned about (although if you have any rotting wood around the females apparently like to move in and lay eggs there, FYI). Keep an eye out for them as you mow the lawn or walk your pets and make friends today! Again, thank you all who wrote in about our newest buddy, Crockett N. Bugs.
