A forwarded message from our Shadyside friends that Highland Park residents might want to be aware of - -------------Hi all, Wanted to make everyone aware that the scams we normally associate with the "Gypsies" are starting up again. State Police have advised us that these criminals & con artists are operating in our area. I've seen several reports already of suspects coming to homes claiming to be from a utility service wanting into your home. Once in, they steal what ever they can get! Point Breeze was the latest hit. A White Male, 55Y/o 155, Short Grey/Black hair, stated he was from the water department and was there to give the victim a $35 rebate towards her bill. The suspect displayed some type of badge and followed the victim into the house. Once inside the actor told the victim to go into the bathroom and flush the toilet. When the victim left for the bathroom, the suspect grabbed money and items left out and fled the scene. A similar incident occurred in Blookline. Please, do not let anyone into your home that you don't know. These people typically target the elderly, but this could happen to anyone. There should be no reason why a utility company has to enter your home. Beware of strangers with offers of money or free stuff, and if this happens to you, please call 911 immediately!!!! Thank you!
