Callowhill, too!!! Re: top of N. Highland Ave and Bunkerhill (near Park entrance)
Thanks for the callout about that bad patch of road. Callowhill is also in Horrible condition, for the whole street. For seven years I've seen it deteriorate, and thought surely the city will pave it soon. But the patching has continued. When I called last year, the day the street paving list was released - and found that Again Callowhill was not going to be repaved - the councilpersons's office told me to call and say it needed to be repaved.... So any CALLOWHILL FOLKS out there, please let's also bombard 311 AND the councilpersons's office with reports of how bad Callowhill is - and that it needs to be repaved. The councilperson has a lot of say in road selection in their area. I'm not sure when the street paving list is finalized for this year, but it's not this early = There Is Still Time. I just don't know how much time. Gina -- Regina Anderson, AICP On Sun, February 17, 2019 12:04 am, susuboombatz@aol.com wrote:
Not certain if plans are in the works for when there is better weather (Spring/Summer) but this area needs some major road attention. Making the left turn from N. Highland down Bunkerhill as well as up Bunkerhill making a right onto N. Highland is just plain awful.....  If you drive this route you understand ...so please join me in calling '311' and asking fore this area to be fixed properly - it does not need patched anymore - it needs dug up and repaved....make sure you get an incident or report number from the 311 rep. Thanks for reading and calling if you do so!! :) SueÂ
I agree with these ladies. Callowhill Street is and has been in a very bad state for several years as stated. I think all of Highland Avenue is pitiful also. As a neighborhood, we have really bad streets, and Highland Park is supposed to be such a great neighborhood to live in, but I ask you, who wants to buy a house or travel our streets since they are so bad. A new 4 story duplex was just built in the 5700 block of Callowhill, and the price tag is a big one. The condition of the street in that block is so bad, that I can't imagine anyone wanting to spend big bucks to live there. This has a negative effect on real estate, and the HP business district as well. I think that the HPCC should also address this issue with our councilperson, and maybe their involvement will present an actual analysis of the severity of the state of our streets, and which streets in our neighborhood deserve the city's attention and their repaving. I would be glad to help in any way.
