ISO studio assistant
Hello neighbors, I am Highland Park visual artist, as well as part-time professor at Pitt and often at CMU PreCollege (taking the upcoming semester off from teaching). www.beckyslemmons.com I am looking to hire someone to help prep surfaces and make some basic items in my studio. Looking for someone with a background in “making things”, and I’ll leave it broad like that. Those who respond, please provide a description of how you would fit in this category, and tell me what your hourly rate is. Specifically looking for someone who would be able to help prepare three wooden panels with special lime plaster primer, and then give them a couple of layers of a smooth coating of lime plaster with a trowel, before I create paintings on the surfaces. (6x9, 6x36, and 11x36 inches) I also have 3.5 inch wide oak planks (six are 48” long, and two 8” long) waiting to be primed and coated with dark gray lime plaster… leaving one side free for fuchsia pink paint. (See photos below—but note that you will be creating only the surfaces; not doing any painting on any of these items.) I could help you become familiar with the material if needed. I am estimating it would involve popping into my Highland Park studio for short work sessions over a period of 4 to 6 weeks. At a certain point, coatings need to dry overnight. Or some/several/many days could be longer ones, depending on where we are in the process. Or if days are not consecutive weekdays (more likely) this may extend over a slightly longer overall period. I can be fairly flexible with pacing, though these items are in preparation for an exhibition at fall’s end. If you are interested, please let me know, as I wanted to make decisions on this in the next several days, although the project does not need to start exactly immediately. Thank you. -Becky
