[Highland Park] UPDATE!!! One Million Step Challenge - Now at YMCA Homewood Brushton!!!!!!

All activities for the Million Step Challenge will take place 9AM on Saturday September 10th at the alternate site which is the Homewood-Brushton YMCA (entrance on the 7100 block of Kelly Street across from Holy Rosary School). Line dancing, zumba, salsa, hip hop, detroit ballroom , chicago stepping, hand dancing, cardio step, volleyball, walk, run, jog, + wear your Steeler gear for the after party. What is the One Million Step Challenge?This is a fun, fitness event, where all the participants will be given a pedometer to count their steps as they participate in a variety of activities.What is your goal for the One Million Step Challenge?We plan to have individual goals and collective goals. The individual goal will be for each person to see what is the maximum number of steps they are able to take during the event.The collective goal is to tally up every bodies number of steps to see if we could reach a grand total of one million steps.Why is it called the City of Champions?To allow us as individuals to grow and strive to become a champion in our own right.Who should participate in this challenge?Anyone can participate, young and old no matter what their level of fitness is. They are encouraged to participate at their own pace.What will this event entail?Everyone is encouraged to participate in a wide array of activities starting at 9am until 4pm for the main event. Then from 4pm until 6pm we plan to have an after party. There is also going to be a variety of Health and Wellness advisors available to offer assessments and provide information on Alternative Health.What are some of the incentives people will receive?Each participants will receive a high quality pedometer, a certificate announcing their number count for the day and a log sheet so that participants’ can continue to track their performance for the future.What is your incentive behind creating such an event?My ultimate goal is to encourage people to acquire a Healthier Lifestyle through fitness.Where are the Proceeds from this event going to?All proceeds received from this event are going to be donated to agencies that service the youth in our communities.How often can we expect this event to happen?I plan to make this a quarterly event. The next event is scheduled for January 2012.How can people register to participate in this event?People can register in advance by completing and returning the Registration Form. Forms can also be picked up at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA and the Kingsley Association.
