Tips to Make Sure Your Vote Is Counted Accurately
Hi, You may have heard that some voters in Texas have been finding that their voting machines changed their votes. The machines did. In light of that, and because I'm a former Judge of Elections and have written on voting issues nationally, I wanted to pass on a couple of things I have learned over the years. 1. Do NOT vote a straight ticket. You can still vote for all the candidates in your party, but take the time to vote for them individually office by office. Voting a straight ticket has always been more open to vote-switching problems/errors. 2. Check the summary or review page carefully to be sure that none of your votes have been changed. If they have been changed, do NOT press the Vote button, call the change to the attention of the Judge of Elections, and then change your vote back to the appropriate person. And then review your summary page again to make sure. If there's still a problem, again call it to the attention of the Judge of Elections. If he or she can't solve it, they need to call the County Elections office. 3. It would also be good to report any voting problems you are having or have had to the Voter Protection Hotline 1-866-OUR-VOTE (administered by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights under Law). They can tell you your rights as a voter and they will work to help you resolve any voting problems you are having if your poll workers can't. They can also make a note of problems so that the problems can hopefully be resolved and not occur again at the next election. 4. Don't let anything stop you from voting. Voting is one important way you can change things if you're unhappy with them (or keep them the same if you're not). For your sake, your children's sake, the sake of everyone you love, VOTE! janet jai
