Hi neighbors. I received a call today from someone introducing themselves as a sergeant saying I was summoned for federal jury duty today and did not show up and asked me why. This did not seem implausible to me because I recently filled out a (legit) federal jury information form online. I said I did not receive the summons, he listed an incorrect address, which would have explained it, but then he told me that there judge has issued citations on me for missing jury duty and a gag order saying I couldn’t talk to anyone about this but law enforcement (as in no lawyer), and that these citations would be upgraded to felonies if I didn’t cooperate. Which of course seemed quite suspect so I started asking questions and he hung up on me. I’m embarrassed I allowed the conversation to go on as long as it did, I should have known there wouldn’t be a sergeant calling me for missing jury duty, but I have never served as a juror in federal court so I didn’t immediately see it as a red flag. The number on caller id was 412-783-3316, though I know scammers use all different phone numbers. I called the juror office at the federal courthouse and they said they had gotten a call yesterday about the same scam. If it happens to you please call and report it because if they get enough complaints they can get law enforcement involved. Meg
