Re: [Highland Park] Voter Turnout
Hello, neighbors I have a concern about my polling place (which may affect turnout), and wonder if anyone else shares it? I am in Ward 11-District 13, and live on Stanton, up by the park entrance & tennis courts. We used to vote at Dillworth School, but the last several elections have been moved to the Vintage senior center on Highland Ave., across from Home Depot & Peabody. Is the Vintage Center even within the boundaries of Districts 12 & 13, which both vote there now? I wonder if our turnout is affected by difficulty in finding a parking space and the fact that anyone who would need to walk there would encounter two busy streets with drivers who are often inconsiderate of pedestrians? I tried looking the boundaries up online, but the map does not show individual streets. Last spring, I called the County Election office on election day and the man who answered my call was very polite and considerate, saying he had heard a lot of complaints. This time, I called a few days before the election and the staff member who answered the phone was neither helpful or empathetic. I was thinking of pursuing this further, but I first wanted to see if I am the only person who feels this way. But we are certainly proud to be representing the District with the highest voter turnout percentage in the City of Pittsburgh: 64.33%. Thank you to all the voters of Ward 11-District 10 (the farmhouse). We, of course, look forward to increasing numbers at the polls in future elections.
