Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
We observe the heart of this Holy Week with two services at St. Andrew's on Hampton Street. On Maundy Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m., we will gather "around the table" in Brooks Hall for a quiet and less-formal service of the Holy Communion, remembering the night in which our Lord shared his "Last Supper" with his Disciples and gave them (and us) his New Commandment (the "Mandatum," from which the word "Maundy" is derived), to "love one another as I have loved you." Following the service we are invited to stay together for a potluck dinner and time of conversation. If we are able to bring a dinner item to share with others, that will be much appreciated by all! On Good Friday, March 30, The Great Three Hours will be observed in the Church beginning at 12 noon with the traditional devotion of the Stations of the Cross. At 1 p.m. the Liturgy for Good Friday from the Book of Common Prayer will be offered. This service includes hymns, prayers, a reading of the Passion Gospel according to St. John, and a brief homily. At 2 p.m. the Choir of St. Andrew's Church will offer a Choral Service, with interludes for silent prayer and reflection. A highlight of this hour will be a presentation of the Arvo Part _Stabat Mater_, sung by our Choral Scholars, with strings. At 3 p.m. the Great Bell of St. Andrew's Church will toll 33 times, to observe the traditional number of years of our Lord's earthly life. All are welcome to attend all or part of any of these Holy Week services. -- *Bruce Robison* *Rector, St. Andrew's Church* *Highland Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania*
