Fwd: Virtual Memorial Day Event Planning
See the email below and attached flier from the City's Office of Community Affairs: In place of traditional Memorial Day commemorations, the Veterans Breakfast Club (VBC) invites all Pittsburgh-area communities and veterans organizations to join together in a region-wide virtual event on *Monday, May 25* that will honor those who died in service to our country while also highlighting the sacrifices of our local neighborhoods and municipalities. In partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, the Allegheny County League of Municipalities, and CONNECT, the VBC is planning a two-hour virtual Memorial Day event streamed across platforms and available to all that will feature both pre-recorded and live elements. Live elements will include welcome remarks, invocation, music, Honor Guard, ceremonial laying of a wreath, and a gun salute. Pre-recorded elements will include remarks by public officials, and, most important, comments and tributes from veterans and citizens paying tribute to local heroes who died in service. A final element of the event will be a live virtual storytelling program, hosted by the VBC, where people can gather and veterans can come on screen to talk about the fallen comrades they remember and think about on this day. We call upon Western Pennsylvania municipalities, community organizations, and veterans organizations to partner with us on this event. Please join us for a planning meeting on Zoom on Friday, April 24th at 2:30pm: *Memorial Day 2020 Zoom Meeting* Scheduled: Apr 24, 2020 at 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM Location: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/6402618738 Meeting ID: 640 261 8738 +13126266799,,6402618738# US (Chicago) +19294362866,,6402618738# US (New York) Please contact Todd DePastino, Executive Director of the VBC, at todd@veteransbreakfastclub.com or 412-623-9029, with any questions. *The VBC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has been holding live face-to-face veteran storytelling events, all open to the public, since 2008.
