[Highland Park] Act 47 public meetings
[Thanks to Ed Sullivan and Andrea Mudd for forwarding this. I don't know what the "No Way" is that is referred to below, so please don't contact me about it!] The Act 47 Recovery Team has scheduled two public meetings to receive input from Pittsburgh residents. It is imperative that as many people as possible attend these meetings and voice your concerns. If they do not hear from us, we will have little room to complain. Therefore, please pass this notice on to as many people as you know. Lastly, if you know of individuals who are interested in No Way, please forward their information to our office so we can add them to our database. We are growing stronger by the day, but are only as strong as the amount of active and supportive community members. Together we can make a difference. * Wednesday, April 28, 7:00 pm (tonight) at Calvary United Methodist Church, Beech and Allegheny Avenues, Northside Topics: Options to increase revenues and service levels provided by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Police Bureau * Wednesday, May 5, 7:00 pm pm University of Pittsburgh Student Union, Oakland Topics: Service levels provided by the Bureau of Fire, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, The Department of Public Works and refuse collection, as well as economic development efforts and cooperation among the City, Allegheny County and the Pittsburgh Public School
I found out what "No Way" is. Here's an excerpt from a Post-Gazette article <http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04059/278741.stm>:
Udin, a leading critic of the lack of diversity on the board, said he is helping to organize a group that will monitor oversight board sessions. Since the board has no voting members who are women, African-Americans or young people it will be called No WAY, Udin said.
Contact City Council Representative Sala Udin if you are interested in being involved in "No WAY": <http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/district6/> Rudy
