[Highland Park] Good Friday at St. Andrew's
Music and traditional devotions will mark the Great Three Hours of Good Friday at St. Andrew's, Highland Park. The first hour, beginning at 12 noon, will be the devotion of the Stations of the Cross. Beginning at 1 p.m., the second hour, the Liturgy for Good Friday from the Book of Common Prayer, will include the reading of the St. John Passion Gospel and a brief Good Friday Meditation by the Rector. Music in the Second Hour will include works by Handel and Soler y Ramos. Soprano soloist and Highland Park resident Elizabeth A. Downey will be accompanied by David Charonis. The Third Hour, beginning at 2 p.m., will be a Service of Music, featuring St. Andrew's Choir and the Strings of the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Melissa McBride. Portions of The Passion According to St. Matthew, by J.S. Bach, and works by Edvard Grieg and Ralph Vaughn Williams will be presented, along with several Passiontide chorales and hymns set for congregational singing. The service ends at 3 p.m. with the tolling of the Great Bell. St. Andrew's is located at the corner of Hampton Street and North Euclid Avenue, one block south of Bryant Street and four blocks south of the park, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park.
