Homewood / East Hills 7/9/18 Stolen Vehicle - 7400 block Monticello Street. A 2003 bronze & black Ford F-150 pickup truck (PA plate YLR-8525) was stolen overnight. (129827) 7/11/18 Stolen Vehicle - 7400 block Monticello Street, 2:15 AM. Victim reported that his 2010 white Ford Edge SUV had just been stolen, with his 9mm pistol inside the vehicle. Victim began tracking the vehicle's location via GPS. Zone 5 officers were able to close-in on the vehicle in the 8600 block of Westwood Road. Upon locating the vehicle, (2) suspects fled on foot (including the driver) while (2) more suspects remained inside the vehicle. Of the two suspects remaining with the vehicle, one of them, a 14 year-old male from Belthoover, had a warrant out for his arrest. The vehicle and the gun were recovered and returned to the owner. The 14 year-old was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant and the other juvenile was released to his mother. (131277) 7/11/18 Theft from Vehicle - 7100 block Hamilton Avenue. A bag containing eye glasses, keys, and an iPad was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. (131835) 7/11/18 Aggravated Assault (Domestic) - 6800 block Frankstown Avenue, 11:00 PM. A 39 year-old female victim reported that her ex-boyfriend, Mitch W. Verheyen, 36, of Mt. Washington, came over to her house earlier in the day and punched her in the head following a verbal argument. The victim reported that the punch caused her to lose consciousness. When she awoke, Verheyen was gone. Officers will apply for an arrest warrant for Verheyen. (131988) 7/13/18 Aggravated Assault (Domestic) - 800 block N. Murtland Street, 1:30 AM. Lt. Fosnaught was on patrol when he witnessed a vehicle driving recklessly near 5th Avenue & Frankstown Avenue. He followed the vehicle a short distance and observed the driver pull over in front of a house in the 800 block of N. Murtland Street. Upon approaching the driver, she explained that her 17 year-old brother had just been stabbed at this location and she was on her way to pick him up and take him to the hospital. Lt. Fosnaught called for paramedics after observing a stab wound to the young man's leg. The victim was taken to West Penn Hospital in good condition. Officers later learned that the suspect, Kenneth Baptiste, 26, of East Hills, is the sister's boyfriend. Baptiste stabbed the victim when he intervened in a physical altercation. Officers will apply for an arrest warrant for Baptiste. (132834) 7/13/18 Theft from Vehicle - 7300 block Idlewild Street, 10:00 AM. Victim is a plumber who was working at a house in this block. He witnessed a black male, 14-16 years old, in a white t-shirt, enter his work truck and run off with his phone. (133036) 7/14/18 Aggaravated Assault (Shots Fired) - 600 block Hale Street, 2:01 AM. Officers Ossman and Joyce were on patrol when they heard several gunshots. Moments later they saw a red SUV with a bullet hole in the windshield driving from the area at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted and the two occupants, ages 35 and 42, told officers they had just been shot at on Hale Street. The 35 year-old victim sustained minor injuries from flying glass. The 42 year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right ring finger. The only description is a male operating a white SUV. (133645) 7/14/18 Robbery - N. Homewood Avenue & Forest Way, 2:56 PM. A 49 year-old male victim was riding his bike in the area when a male from whom he had previously borrowed money approached. The male demanded his money back from the victim. The victim stated that he did not have the money. The male then pushed the victim down, stole $12.75 and his photo ID from his pockets, then took the victim's bicycle and rode off. Officers later spotted the suspect sitting on the victim's bicycle at the corner of N. Homewood Avenue & Frankstown Avenue. The male was identified as Troy D. Napper-Graham, 28, of Northside. Napper-Graham was still in possession of the victim's photo ID and money. He was arrested without incident and the bicycle was returned to the victim. (133973) Larimer / Lincoln-Lemington 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 7100 block Vann Road. An HP laptop was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight. (129831) 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 7100 block Vann Road, 5:10 AM. Victim reported the he witnessed two males in his car while he was getting ready for work. The victim went outside and yelled at the males, who fled the area before they could steal anything. The victim could not get any better description than black males in jeans and hooded sweatshirts. (129768) 7//15/18 Burglary / Theft from Vehicle - Carver Street. Victim found (2) industrial A/C units stolen from a detached garage and a Steeler hat missing from his car inside the same garage. (134851) Bloomfield / Garfield / Friendship 7/8/18 Stolen Vehicle - 5200 block Schenley Avenue. A 2005 burgundy Chevrolet Aveo was stolen. The victim indicated that the doors were unlocked and there was a spare key inside the vehicle. On 7/10/18, the victim and her family were out looking for her car and spotted (3) juveniles driving it. The juveniles were able to elude the victim at first but she spotted the car a short time later, parked behind St. Lawrence O'Toole church in Garfield. Officers arrived at the scene just as the juveniles were returning to the car. The victim positively identified them as the same kids she saw in the car earlier. Additionally, a neighbor arrived at the scene and indicated that these same kids were breaking into cars in the area. The males were all taken into custody. They are age 15, from Homewood, age 17, from Garfield, and age 17, from Northview Heights. (129597) 7/8/18 Overdose - 4700 block Lorigan Street, 1:00 PM. A homeowner discovered his 53 year-old cleaning lady unresponsive and blue in the face. PGH EMS responded and revived the female with Narcan. Officers located (7) stamp bags of heroin, a needle, and a crack pipe in her purse. The female refused to go to the hospital for further treatment. (129322) 7/13/18 Theft from Vehicle - 5100 block Columbo Street. Victim found her car door and glove compartment pried-open. Nothing appeared to be missing. (133438) 7/13/18 Overdose - 200 block S. Winebiddle Street, 1:32 AM. Officers responded to a possible overdose and arrived to find a 29 year-old female in the care of PGH EMS. She was conscious and alert and was taken to West Penn Hospital for further treatment. (132832) 7/13/18 Robbery - 5600 block Baum Boulevard, 7:50 PM. A 61 year-old female victim told officers that she had just been robbed by (2) females and (1) male suspect. The victim stated that one of the female robbers, Dara Gibson, 26, offered her a ride to Rite Aid to get cigarettes. Gibson picked her up in a blue SUV. Also in the SUV were an unknown female and an unknown male. When they arrived at the Rite Aid, Gibson and the other occupants stole all of the victim's money. When the victim exited the SUV, the suspects drove off. Officers will apply for an arrest warrant for Gibson. Suspect # 2 is a white male, 35-45 years old, 145 Lbs, thin build, with a mustache. Suspect # 3 is a white female, 40-50 years old, wearing a white t-shirt. (133425) 7/14/18 Robbery - N. Negley Avenue & Broad Street, 11:30 AM. A 19 year-old victim reported that he took an Uber from the Apple store in Shadyside to the Sunoco station on N. Negley Avenue at Broad Street. When he exited the vehicle with his Apple Mac Book Pro, an unknown suspect approached and stole the computer at knifepoint. The suspect is a black male, medium complexion, 25-29 years old, 6'0", medium build, in dark jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt. (133884) 7/15/18 Theft from Vehicle - 200 block N. Evaline Street. A green backpack containing clothing was stolen from a vehicle overnight. (134562) East Liberty / Highland Park 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 5800 block Wellston Way. A watch was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight. (129812) 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 100 block N. Sheridan Avenue. 5:05 PM. A victim observed (3) juvenile males breaking into his car. The victim ran outside and confronted the males, who fled on foot. The victim pursued the suspects at which point he observed one of them run onto a porch in the 1100 block of DeVictor Place and steal a bicycle. The victim was able to catch one of the other suspects, a juvenile male, 14, of East Liberty. That male was arrested and charged with Theft from Vehicle. The other two suspects are between 10-15 years of age. Zone 5 detectives are working to obtain their identity. (130167) 7/9/18 Stolen Vehicle - 5800 block Stanton Avenue, 6:36 PM. Victim reported that his 2008 burgundy Pontiac 6S had just been stolen for the second time in a week. Victim believes that someone may have a key to his vehicle since the car was locked and this keeps happening. Officers checked the area for the vehicle and found it parked (unoccupied) in the rear of the 300 block of N. Negley Avenue. The vehicle was returned to the owner. (130249) 7/11/18 Burglary - 6200 block St. Marie Street. Victim was checking on her vacant rental property (currently undergoing renovations) and noticed the front door was wide open. Officers searched the house and found a shattered bedroom window. Nothing appeared to be missing. (131592) 7/13/18 Stolen Vehicle - 5700 block Bunkerhill Street. A 2007 silver Ford Explorer (PA plate KNT-5345) was stolen from in-front of the residence. (133392) 7/14/18 Robbery - 5700 block Baum Boulevard, 4:15 AM. A 57 year-old male victim reported that he had just purchased a pack of cigarettes at the Shell gas station and was waiting for the bus, when two males approached him. They asked for a cigarette and the victim obliged. After finishing the cigarette, they asked for another. The victim declined. At this point, both men attempted to steal the cigarette pack from the victim. A struggle ensued and the men eventually ran off without getting anything. Suspect # 1 is a black male, 25-30 years old, 6'1", 18 0 Lbs, medium build, clean-shaven, with a black & red baseball cap. Suspect # 2 is a black male, unknown age, 5'8," 150 Lbs, in dark blue jeans. (133699) Morningside / Stanton Heights / Waterworks 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 1600 block Chislett Street. Personal items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight. (129923) 7/9/18 Stolen Vehicle - 1600 block Chislett Street. A 2005 beige Mercury Sable was stolen overnight. The victim reported that he keeps a spare key in the car. On 7/12/18, the car was recovered after it was found wrecked at the intersection of Rosedale Street & Tacoma Street, in Homewood. (129826) 7/9/18 Stolen Vehicle - 4400 block Stanton Avenue. A 2011 gray Subaru Forrester (PA plate DDZ-4172) was stolen overnight. The victim reported that she recently lost her spare key somewhere outside her residence. (129866) 7/9/18 Theft from Vehicle - 1700 block Chislett Street. Victim returned home to find her car door ajar and her can ransacked. Unknown if anything was stolen. (130889) 7/11/18 Stolen Vehicle - 5000 block Stanton Avenue. A 2002 white Ford Econoline van (PA palte ZJR-4256) was stolen. Pittsburgh Police Narcotics detectives responded to assist. A search of the home yielded the following items: a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed-off, a "bundle" of heroin, a bag of crack cocaine, a bag of powdered cocaine, marijuana digital scales, an pistol magazines. The Robinson's were not home at the time and detectives will apply for arrest warrants for the couple. (130084) 7/10/18 2:55 AM N. Lang Avenue & Kelly Street Arrestee: William Taylor, 24, of Verona Summary: Officer Szalla was patrolling Homewood when he noticed an occupied vehicle parked behind the Homewood Library. The library was closed so Officer Szalla approached the vehicle to investigate further. Upon checking the license plate, officers learned that the car had been reported stolen out of Zone 4. The driver was identified as William Taylor. Officer Szalla read Taylor his Miranda Warnings at which point he exclaimed "I plead the fifth." Taylor was arrested and taken to the ACJ. (121729) 7/12/18 4:03 PM Frankstown Avenue & N. Homewood Avenue Arrestee: Javan J. Tarver, 43, of Garfield Summary: Zone 5 plainclothes officers were conducting surveillance on the corner of Frankstown Avenue & N. Homewood Avenue, in response to numerous citizen complaints of drug dealing. Officers are familiar with Javan Tarver from previous encounters and on this date they noticed multiple people approach him, hand over money, then receive something from a small baggy that Tarver was holding in his hand. After making a few apparent drug deals, Tarver placed a plastic baggy into his vehicle and pulled a folding chair from the car . He then sat under a tree across from the market. Apparently wanting to call attention to his illegal activities and make our job easier, Tarver then lit a marijuana cigar and began smoking it in public. Officers moved in and took Tarver into custody. A search of his vehicle yielded: a "bundle" of heroin, a large chunk of crack cocaine, and a bag of marijuana. Tarver was arrested. (132486) 7/13/18 7:59 AM 7200 block Frankstown Avenue Arrestee: John D. Alexander, 54, of Homewood Summary: Zone 5 plainclothes officers were conducting surveillance on the corner of Frankstown Avenue & N. Homewood Avenue, in response to numerous citizen complaints of drug dealing. They witnessed people approach John Alexander, hand him money, and receive small objects from a plastic bag in return. Officers approached to investigate further and as they did, the observed Alexander discard a plastic bag wrapped in brown paper towel into a nearby garbage can. Officers immediately recovered the discarded item and found it to contain: (2) "bundles" of heroin, raw heroin powder, and (4) bags of marijuana. Alexander was placed under arrest. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded numerous knotted plastic bags of crack cocaine. Officers also found that Alexander was wanted on an outstanding warrant by the US Marshall's.
