[Highland Park] possible scams
Having lived in Baltimore, a city rife with scammers, I'm not naive about scams to get money, but I'd also like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Today was the second time I'd been approached by someone with a very similar story (the first time was last year). The man approached me when I was getting groceries out of my car and told me that his rims and tires had been stolen off his car parked near the Highland Park Care Center at Stanton and Highland. He was quick to tell me where he lived and presented his license to me, offering it as collateral and requested a ride (to where, I wasn't sure) or bus fare. I was skeptical and told him that I'd heard a story before that sounded very much like his own. I asked him what led him all the way to Negley to seek help if his car was parked six blocks away, but he had a detailed story explaining this (a red flag). Of course he was very kind and appreciative when I offered to give him bus fare (I had my daughter with me so wasn't about to give him a lift, as much as part of me wanted to). If anyone else encountered this man on Tuesday afternoon and aided him in any way it confirms my suspicions that it was just another elaborate scheme to get some cash.
