[Highland Park] Need police help for adoption
Hello, I am at my wit's end and I thought I would appeal to the resourcefulness of our Highland Park neighbors. My husband and I are currently in the process of adopting a little girl from Russia. As part of our paperwork, we are required to have a letter on police department letterhead saying that we have no criminal record in PA. We have notarized criminal record checks from the state as well as official state child abuse clearance letters, but that's not good enough - it has to be on Police letterhead. To make a long story short - our local station said no, talk to the county. The county said no, talk to the state. The state said we used to do that, but not anymore, talk to the local... A community service relations person in the state office said she would get back to me, but hasn't and hasn't returned phone calls. We haven't lived here long, so we don't know anyone in the police department that could help us. It's a very simple letter and we have proof that we have no criminal backgrounds, but it seems to be making everyone nervous. Bottom line, though, is that without those letters (3 for me, 3 for my husband), we can never bring our little girl home. Sorry for the long letter - any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!
