Dear Neighbors – I just received the below e-mail from the Pittsburgh Public Schools in regards to their presentation for tomorrow night’s meeting. The HPCC is holding its monthly meeting at St. Andrews on Hampton Street here in Highland Park starting with the Board Meeting at 7:00 PM, and followed by a short presentation from the Union Project, New Elected City Councilman Patrick Dowd, as well as the “Pittsburgh Promise” and High School Reform presentation by the Pittsburgh Public Schools as set in the following e-mail. I hope that you will make time in your busy schedule to see what is happening in your neighborhood, as well as with the future of the Pittsburgh Schools. I apologize that it has taken us a few days to confirm the details of our attendance. We wanted to be very accurate with our response. We know that successful, high-achieving public schools are a critical asset to the community, and we're looking forward to opening a dialogue about some of the great things being launched at the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Attending from PPS: Derrick Lopez, Chief of High School reform Cate Reed, a Broad Resident in the Office of High School reform Greg Acton, the project manager for the consulting firm whose local office worked with the district on a pro-bono basis regarding the Promise Agenda: --10-15 minutes on the Pittsburgh Promise. The Promise aims at fundamental revitalization of the City of Pittsburgh through raising student achievement. Why is it needed? What are the concrete goals? What would potential investors/donors have to believe? What will it take to be successful? --10-15 minutes on High School reform. What are the Year 1 pathways to the Promise? How is PPS going to get students ready to "plan and prepare" for college? What is the Robotics program coming to Peabody? --10-15 minutes Q&A We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Cheers, Cate Reed Pittsburgh Public Schools Office of High School Reform 341 S.
