Hello Highland Park Residents, Quantum Theatre is setting up shop right in your neighborhood- on Lake Carnegie in Highland Park. Quantum is a theatre company that creates theatre in places that are not theatres. For over 20 years, we have brought theatre experiences to non-traditional places like the cemetery, Frick Park, the old Iron City Brewery, among many others. As part of our Neighborhood Initiative, an effort we began two years ago in which we committed to stage consecutive works along the Penn Avenue Corridor (the East End neighborhoods stretching from Bakery Square to Doughboy Square). We are thrilled to continue this effort by bringing, *The Golden Dragon*, to Highland Park this August. *The Golden Dragon* By Roland Chimmelpfennig Directed by Karla Boos Five actors play many characters – 15 in all – whose lives are connected through a street-level Asian restaurant and the apartment building over it which could be… anywhere on the planet, such is its generic quality. These disparate lives come together at The Golden Dragon like the mirrored shards of a kaleidoscope and we watch the patterns change after a random event sets it all in motion. Ultimately the play is a darkly funny allegory for the turmoil plaguing our increasingly intertwined global community. Its language is poetic and the play includes the dreamlike magic realism Schimmelpfennig is known for, but at times it erupts with an edge of violence. The audience will sit on a seating structure specially built on the bank. Pre-show picnics are encouraged in this iconic spot, and box dinners (from Highland Park’s own E2) are available.
