sharing feedback about food composting
Wow, it seems like we do a lot of food composting here in Highland Park! I got loads of replies to my request for insight into the food composting companies and I learned about one that I hadn't heard of. I also had quite a few people ask me to share insight that I received so I figured I'd share with everyone. I've pasted below the comments that I got. Thanks to everyone who replied! "We've used carbon compost for about 6 months and have been pretty happy with the service. Chose it because you can include meat and dairy products in the compost (which was not the case with one I previously used). They are local to highland park & pretty responsive" "We use Shadyside worms and have been happy with the service. Never tried any others." "I HIGHLY recommend Worm Return. https://www.wormreturn.com Laura - founder of the company is fabulous and they do a great job. They make it very easy to skip a week (or more) as needed and are very reliable." "I’ve been very happy with Zero Waste Wrangler. They do curbside pick up like the other compost companies around do, but also have a drop off option that I’ve found super easy/convenient and is only $10/month. They have bins in several local neighborhoods that you can then drop off your compost items at any time instead of waiting until a pick up time, which I’ve found nice for times when I have pizza boxes and large amounts of food scraps at once. I’m guessing you can do a combo of each of those services, but haven’t asked." "I have been using shadyside worms for over two years and have been very happy with it." "I've interviewed Laura from Worm Return and Kyle from Zero Waste Wrangler for my podcast. You can listen here: https://www.withbowlandspoon.com/ " "Hi, we use Carbon Compost. I find Louis really helpful and kind and I appreciate the extras he organizes at times--whether it's extra soil/compost or a sample at the Refillery. If I were you I'd also think about whether you want soil in return, we get some from Carbon Compost but it's not a huge amount, maybe 2 deliveries a year of a burlap bag full." "I use worm return. It's a good service, they know where my bucket is and just swap it out without me having to put it out by the curb. I have been satisfied but can't really speak about any pros / cons for others. They also sell worm tea for gardens too."
