[Highland Park] Come to Dinner this Saturday at St Andrew's
If you're looking for an excuse to go out this Saturday for a delicious dinner, you may want to let Al Mann know. "Al Mann"<alfred.mann@verizon.net>, 412.661.5947 "Celebrating Literacy - Inspiring Service" begins with Hors D'Oeurves and wine at 5:30 PM on March 28th in Brooks Hall at St Andrew's. The featured speaker and recipient of the Kiwanis Club of East Liberty 2009 Community Service Award will be Don Block, Executive Director of Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. The K-Kids children's service Club at Fulton Academy, next door to the church, is one of the organizations that will benefit from the dinner, book sale, and silent auction, which is $25 per person. Don has been recognized as Pennsylvania's Outstanding Adult Educator (1992), as Pittsburgh's Man of the Year in Education (1993), and as the national Administrator of the year in adult education (2007). In 2001 Gov. Schweiker named him to the Interagency Coordinating Council, which is charged with improving the system of adult education in the state. He holds a masters degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a B.A. from Yale. He served in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. His father, the late William Block, was the publisher of the Post GAzette.
