Three calendar items of note for all of us in the wider St. Andrew's and Highland Park circles as we come to the last weeks of Lent, 2017. This evening, April 4th, the final "East End Lenten Series" program of the year will take place at St. James Episcopal Church in the Penn Hills, 11524 Frankstown Road, 15235, with dinner served at 6 p.m. and the service at 7 p.m. Our preacher this week will be our good friend and neighbor the Rev. Randy Bush, Senior Pastor of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church. All welcome! Thursday evening, April 6, at 8 p.m., a service of Choral Evensong for Passiontide will be sung by the St. Andrew's Parish Choir, featuring music by William Byrd and Samuel Sebastian Wesley. A recital follows with Betty Rieley, long-time Highland Park friend and neighbor, who will offer a piano program featuring works by J.S. Bach and Claude Debussy. And finally, Holy Week begins Palm Sunday, April 9, at at 4:30 p.m. the St. Andrew's Choir and the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Tom Octave of the Music Department of St. Vincent College, will present the Second Park of G.F. Handel's much-loved oratorio, Messiah. Again, we're invited to mark calendars now. Blessings in the season. BruceR Bruce M.
