[Highland Park] Carolina Liar Benefit Concert for The Homeless Children's Education Fund
Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 6 pm Carolina Liar is a Los Angeles-based critically acclaimed alternative pop band best known for the songs “I’m Not Over” and “Show Me What I’m Looking For” from the 2008 debut album Coming to Terms. “Show Me What I’m Looking For” was featured as an iTunes Single of the Week and in FOX commercials for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. “I’m Not Over” peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart. The band’s second album, Wild Blessed Freedom, was released in 2011. Lead singer and Charleston, S.C. native Chad Wolf is joined by Rickard Goransson on guitar, Johan Carlsson on keyboards, and Peter Carlsson on drums and percussion. Carolina Liar has performed on television on Jimmy Kimmel Live, 90210 and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and recently toured with The Fray and Kelly Clarkson. Carolina Liar will play a benefit concert on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Proceeds will benefit the Homeless Children’s Education Fund. The Homeless Children’s Education Fund advances the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness in Allegheny County by providing educational programs, serving as a trusted advocate, sharing expertise, and creating collaborative relationships. To purchase tickets in advance, visit www.ssawebstore.com.The 6 p.m concert kicks off with student-run Untucked festival, a family carnival at 4 p.m at Shady Side Academy Senior School campus, located at 423 Fox Chapel Road, Fox Chapel. The family carnival features inflatables, including a climbing mountain, bounce house, Boulder Dash and Surfing Wave, as well as a fun photo zone, dunk tank, arts and crafts, music, and food provided by The Franktuary, Holy Smokes Barbecue, PGH Taco Truck and Bella Christie. Untucked is a student organization founded in 2002 whose mission is to support local and international charities while providing a fun-filled community event. Over the past 10 years, Untucked has raised nearly $100,000 for charities including the Woodlands Foundation, Neighborhood Academy, Best of the Batch Foundation, Gilda’s Club and Global Links while featuring concerts by well-known bands such as Rusted Root, The Clarks, Better Than Ezra, Sister Hazel, State Radio and Arrested Development. The Untucked students have worked tirelessly this year to fundraise, plan and publicize the carnival and concert. Students also have volunteered afternoons for tutoring children in cooperation with the Homeless Children’s Education Fund.
