[Highland Park] Yard Sale Suggestion and Tennis Club information
The weather forecast for tomorrow is partly sunny with highs in the mid 60s--good enough to enjoy the yard sale or even the tennis tournament on Stanton Avenue... YARD SALE SUGGESTION (From Judy Wolfe, chair of the HPCC Yard Sale committee:) It has been suggested that Yard Sale participants donate 10% of the proceeds from their sales to the Union Project, both to support their ongoing efforts to establish a community art center at the former Baptist Church at the corner of Negley and Stanton, and to help replace the windows and other items which were destroyed by vandals and the fires which they set. This would be a truly wonderful gesture on the part of our neighbors. HIGHLAND PARK TENNIS CLUB (From Hanna Spearman, president of the HPTC:) The Highland Park Tennis Club (HPTC) organized in April 2002, with seven people who loved the game. The club has grown to thirty members. Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month. We are a multi racial, non-profit social tennis club and our mission is to promote the growth of tennis in the Pittsburgh area for players of all ages and abilities, for the love of the game. Also our activities include sponsoring an annual indoor tennis party during the winter months, hosting tennis tournaments, coordinating traveling team matches, and other special events. Most importantly, we provide a free tennis clinic every Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am for any one who wants to learn the game. [The HPTC is having its second annual "Survivor" doubles tournament Sunday at the tennis courts on Stanton Avenue from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Everyone is welcome, and there is a fee for participating.]
