Dear neighbors, It pains me to tell you that our neighborhood is not as safe as I once thought. We live on Hampton Street, close to N. Highland. Friday night at 9.30 pm our security camera recorded a man walking from the dark side of our house by Euclid, entering our backyard, walking and looking around for a half hour. He then, off our camera range, attempted to come into our home by breaking a basement window. We were home!!! Our security system's noise scared him away but it was a close call. The police came and made a report of attempted burglary. They were very nice and came by fast. We were reminded that *Light is the cheapest of all crime deterrents*.* Light up your front porches and often overlooked side yards, banishing all dark spaces around your home is important *, it is cheaper than replacing a window and other damages and will make your house safe.. You can find very inexpensive solar powerful motion detector lights. Make sure at night. that all your windows are locked, especially accessible basement windows. My client from Sewickley tells me that there are some burglars who check out the comings and goings of homeowners, come in vans with business names, tall ladders and dressed as contractors, go through a second floor window and steal anything they can find including safes and do all that in 10 minutes before the police can come. Don't be afraid to check with neighbors if they are having work done. Happy Thanksgiving everyone and keep our neighborhood safe, light up your home every night, it's money well spent! Elisabeth
