Seattle band *Uncle Bonsai* will be coming to Highland Park Tuesday, April 17. This is an invitation for our Highland Park neighbors to join us for a house concert with great harmony and sly wit. Concerts@Carol's House Concert Uncle Bonsai Tuesday, April 17 Come after 6:30, concert starts at 7 pm What makes Uncle Bonsai exceptional? Songs are almost one-act plays or short stories, resisting strict folk or pop categories. Imagine crossing Tim Burton with the Andrews Sisters, the Beatles and Tom Lehrer. Uncle Bonsai presents a dizzying vocal array of harmony, which delights with moments of great insight and beauty. Densely packed lyrics fly by, taking a skewed stance on topics such as the creation of the universe, the afterlife, and, of course, holidays with the family. Their stories focus on the passing of time, the passing of genes, and in the sample below, the passing of pets—the truths of everything seemingly buried under the family tree. Uncle Bonsai is a musical institution in the Seattle area and rarely make it to our side of the Rockies. They were in Pittsburgh just once before, when I determined to bring them back for an encore performance. For information and/or an invitation, email carol@concertsatcarols@gmail.com The details are pretty standard for a house concert. A $20 suggested donation to the trio. Bring food or drink for the intermission (or not). If you haven't attended a house concert, “Carnegie Small” beats Carnegie Hall. You can speak to the musicians and listen like nowhere else. I will leave you with this sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR_fvONR9W0
