Reservoir of Jazz on Sunday, September 3rd
Hi Neighbors and Friends, I hope you were able to get up to the park to see the Cliff Barnes Trio perform at Reservoir of Jazz last Sunday. This Sunday, the Alton Merrell will be performing, courtesy of the City of Pittsburgh Office of Special Events and the Highland Park Community Council. The weather is going to be perfect on Sunday (has been every Sunday this year), partly sunny and 70 degrees. Bring your lawn chair and relax in the park. The performance begins at 5pm and concludes at 7pm. Our performer for this Sunday is jazz pianist Alton Merrell. Alton Merrell is a highly sought after pianist, Hammond B-3 organist, music educator and composer. He is a current member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra and has also performed with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Cleveland State Jazz Heritage Orchestra, Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, and the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Merrell has performed with jazz artists Wynton Marsalis, Benny Golson, Slide Hampton, James Moody, Phil Woods, Claudio Roditi, Rufus Reed, Marvin Stamm, Maria Schneider, Kenny Burrell, Billy Pierce, Conrad Herwig, Sean Jones, Leslie Lewis, Frank Foster, Roger Humphries, Jim Rupp and Greg Abate. Alton has received numerous honors including: Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year, American Gospel Music Award, Best New Gospel Jazz Artist & Producer, and a Capital Jazz Festival Competition Finalist (2008). Alton founded Minstrel Enterprises LLC, a music ministry providing concerts, seminars, music instruction, music consulting, arranging, orchestration and studio production services. Franktuary is scheduled to be serving hot dogs and fries this Sunday. LaScolla’s Italian Ice, soon to be opening a storefront in Highland Park, will be serving dessert: Cookies !!! Italian Ice Frozen Custard and Coffee Custard Floats Brownies with Custard Lemonade, Iced Coffee and Cold water There will be children’s activities provided by the Highland Park Community Council. At the craft tent we will be making pencil cases and there will be face-painting. We will be holding the 50/50 raffle, with the winner announced at the end of the concert.
