Upcoming School Board Candidate Forums - CORRECTION
I made a mistake with the dates in the posting I sent out yesterday (see below). The HPCC community meeting with school board candidates will be April 18, not April 25. Sorry for any confusion! Stephanie There's a big push this year to engage more voters in the City's School Board Elections. Why? - Pittsburgh School Board Members are responsible for *enacting policies* that govern Pittsburgh Public Schools - Pittsburgh School Board Members are responsible for *managing a budget that is larger than the City of Pittsburgh’s* operating budget - *Significant gaps in student success* remain in Pittsburgh Public Schools Yet, despite the clear importance of the Pittsburgh School Board,* less than 20% of registered voters voted in the last four School Board elections*. (www.pump.org) We have four people running to represent our district on the PPS School Board this year. Below is information about two forums for all school board candidates coming up in April. In addition, *all candidates for District 2 (which includes Highland Park) are being invited to the April 18 Highland Park Community Council meeting. * Our next school board member may be determined during May's primary election - please engage!
