Thank you, Nina Contact: Marielle Saums and Esther De La Torre FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tel.: 703.300.7882 and 323.596.8642 E-mail: msaums@andrew.cmu.edu and edelato@andrew.cmu.edu ¡CREAR Y COMUNICAR! ART WORKSHOPS AT ASSEMBLE IN GARFIELD “¡Crear y Comunicar!” is a series of art workshops run by Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE): Nicaragua at Assemble, a community space for arts + technology at 5125 Penn Ave. The workshops will be free and open to all children within the greater Pittsburgh community, and they will take place during Saturday afternoons in February (on the 4th, the 11th, and the 18th) from 12pm to 3pm, with the final workshop on Thursday, February 23rd from 5pm to 8pm. SIFE: Nicaragua will also be hosting a gallery opening at Assemble on Friday, February 3rd beginning at 6pm to display the work made last year by workshop participants from both Pittsburgh and Nicaragua. The work of last year’s participants will be on view at Assemble until February 24th. SIFE: Nicaragua is a student group at Carnegie Mellon that travels annually to Nicaragua. Through the non-profit organization Bridges to Community, the students are currently in a partnership with the rural community of Rosa Grande, Nicaragua. Since sustainability is one of our main goals, multi-year partnerships are paramount to our work in our education and environmentally focused initiatives in addition to our art initiative. Because of SIFE: Nicaragua’s strong ties with Pittsburgh and Rosa Grande, the art projects are transnational in scope but will be local in impact. Children will learn about their own communities and about Nicaragua through collaborative projects that facilitate communication. The workshops will utilize various media, such as video, photography, and projections to promote an interactive cross-cultural exchange. # # # If you’d like more information about the gallery opening or the art workshops, please contact Marielle Saums at sifenicaraguacmu@gmail.com or 703.300.7882. -- -------------------------- Nina Marie Barbuto Executive Director assemble a community space for arts + technology 5125 Penn Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15224 T (412) 432-9127 assemblepgh.org Find us on:: Facebook <http://www.facebook.com/assemblePGH> Twitter <http://twitter.com/assemblepgh>
